If you are pregnant or have serious health concerns such as joint injury, recent surgery, epilepsy, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease especially hypertension, be sure to discuss this with your GP or Allied Health Professional prior to undertaking any type of new body work classes.
Pre-screening clients before teaching Yin Yoga is crucial for several reasons:
1. Safety
Yin Yoga involves holding poses for extended periods, which can be strenuous on the joints and connective tissues. Pre-screening helps identify any physical limitations, injuries, or conditions that may require modifications to avoid harm.
2. Personalisation
Understanding each client’s health status, fitness level, and individual needs allows for personalized instruction. This ensures that each client can practice safely and effectively, maximizing the benefits of Yin Yoga.
3. Injury Prevention
By identifying past injuries, chronic conditions, or areas of weakness, instructors can prevent exacerbating these issues. Appropriate adjustments and props can be used to support and protect vulnerable areas.
4. Medical Conditions
Certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart problems, or severe arthritis, may be contraindications for some Yin Yoga poses. Pre-screening helps in identifying such conditions so that poses can be adapted or avoided.
5. Client Comfort and Confidence
When clients feel that their individual needs and limitations are understood and respected, they are more likely to feel comfortable and confident in their practice. This fosters a positive and supportive learning environment.
6. Legal and Professional Responsibility
Conducting pre-screenings can protect instructors legally, demonstrating a commitment to professional responsibility and duty of care. This is particularly important in reducing the risk of liability in the case of injuries.
7. Effective Communication
Pre-screening provides an opportunity to establish open communication with clients. This helps in setting expectations, discussing goals, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have about the practice.
8. Enhancing Yoga Experience With a clear understanding of each client’s capabilities and limitations, instructors can create a more enjoyable and fulfilling yoga experience. This can lead to better client retention and satisfaction.
By prioritising pre-screening, Yin Yoga instructors can ensure a safer, more personalised, and effective practice for all clients.

Other Considerations
Do not wear perfume or cologne to yoga. Deep breathing is part of the practice and you do not want to be inhaling these chemicals.
Do not eat large meals immediately beforehand.
Arrive to class freshly showered mindfully keeping your physical and auric body cleansed. Also, use the restrooms beforehand so there’s minimal disruption to your practice.
Remove jewellery, watches, glasses, and anything metallic on your body.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing so the body feels free and unrestricted.
Have plenty of props available to suit your practice. The more the better.
And finally, unplug. Turn off the phone, television, laptop, and any distractions. Let family members know you’re having some quiet time so they can respect this.
